Hey my name is Tylor and I love movies and decided to dedicate a blog to them! I hope everyone likes what I have to say and if they have any suggestions on a movie for me to watch, please let me know! Thanks have a great day!
I went ahead and did my podcast over movie reviews. Some people find them very helpful, where others think there's no need for them. I'll go ahead and let you be the judge of that. Go ahead and click below to get the scoop. Thanks I hope you enjoy.
Ding Ding Ding we have a winner everyone, She's The Man takes number one on my romantic comedy list. She's The Man is also based on a Shakespearean play called Twelfth Night, Or What You Will. This hilarious cast consists of Amanda Bynes (Viola), Laura Ramsey (Olivia Lennox), Channing Tatum (Duke), Robert Hoffman (Justin), Alexandra Breckenridge (Monique), James Kirk (Sebastian), and many more.
Viola is an awesome soccer player on her school's girl's team. To call it too perfect, her boyfriend Justin, is the captain of the school's boy's team. I guess some could say it was a match made in soccer heaven, that was until the school cut the girl's team. So Viola comes up with the idea that the girls could join the boy's team, well the boy's coach shut that down. Then Viola turns to her boyfriend in her hour of need and asks him and he says no also, well that was good enough for Viola to dump him and move on.
Viola returns home to find her brother Sebastian packing a bag and about to head out his window. At this point she's wondering what the heck is going on, Sebastian explains he and his band got the opportunity to take a little tour in London so he's hitting the road. Luckily, their parents are divorced so he told the other he was staying at the others house because he also is supposed to be starting at a new boarding school. This is where Viola comes up with the in-genesis idea to become her brother and play soccer at his school to show just how good she is.
She arrives at the new school kind of freaking out at the fact that she's actually doing this and feels like everyone knows she's not really Sebastian. Apparently she's freaking out over nothing because everyone just assumes she's/he's small for her/his age. It's time for soccer practice and lucky her, her roommate Duke is the team captain. See Viola doesn't quite make varsity so she enlists Duke to help her and she'll help him try and get with the girl he's crushing on, Olivia.
As Duke and Viola, I mean Sebastian, get closer as teammates and roommates, Viola starts developing feelings for Duke and Olivia starts developing feelings for Sebastian, I mean Viola I guess. So, she starts seeing Duke to make Sebastian jealous. All the while Sebastian's real girlfriend Monique comes to visit him and causes more drama as Viola aka Sebastian breaks up with her. Then, Duke see's Olivia kiss Sebastian, but this is the real Sebastian and it just becomes a big mess. I hope I haven't lost you.
So, Sebastian, Viola, finally makes varsity and the opening game is against her old school who cut her team and her ex Justin. Meanwhile, Duke is now mad at Sebastian for kissing Olivia, so the game's becoming a mess. So, how does the game end? Who ends up with who? Does anyone find out that Viola is impersonating her brother? You're just going to have to watch to find out. There's a lot going on in this movie with comedy and romance.
I know Amanda Bynes kind of fell off the bandwagon for awhile, but I don't hold it against her acting career. She's so funny in this movie trying to balance being her brother and herself. You'll have a lot of laughs and a lot of awe moments with this one. I love watching this one with my friends as we have all seen it. It couldn't be the fact that Channing Tatum is the leading man. I can not get enough of this film and would recommend it to anyone who asks. This is why it's my number one pick for this romantic comedy list. That's going to wrap it up for this list of films, stay tuned for a new list. Have a great day, and as always, enjoy a great movie!
Okay we're one spot away from my number one pick. Number 2 is going to 10 Things I Hate About You. This film is a new take on William Shakespeare's play Taming Of The Shrew. You even get a taste of Mr. Shakespeare as one of the characters is in love with him. This film was either the first or close to the first film's many of these well known actors/actresses performed in; Heath Ledger (Patrick Verona), Julia Stiles (Kat Stratford), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Cameron James), Larisa Oleynik (Bianca Stratford), David Krumholtz (Michael), Andrew Keegan (Joey Donner), Larry Miller (Walter Stratford), and many more.
Bianca Stratford is pretty popular for only being a sophomore in high school. She has the most popular senior boy Joey Donner after her and she's very interested. There's just one problem, her sister Kat Stratford. Their dad Walter Stratford made a deal with Bianca that when Kat decides to go on a date, then she can. Mr. Stratford thought this was a full-proof plan as Kat does not like to go out and kind of has a reputation of being an honest, or some would say mean, girl. Actually, his plan would have worked if it wasn't for one boy, Cameron James.
You see now Cameron is in love with Bianca and found out that she can't go out with anyone unless her sister does, so Cameron in-lists his best friend Michael to help him find a guy for Kat. Now, this guy had to be ruthless and willing to go out with Kat and handle her so called bitchiness, lucky for them they found Patrick Verona who had quite the bad boy rep himself. Now, Patrick was willing to go out with Kat, for a price. This is now when they had to approach Joey Donner and tell him their master plan, just leaving out the part where Cameron wants to date Bianca. They had to get Joey to think it was his idea so he can take out Bianca. He was in and willing to pay the price.
Now that Patrick was willing to take Kat out, they had to get Kat to go out with him. It took a lot of flattery and a musical number for Kat to finally agree to go out with Patrick. So now Bianca could go out with Joey while Cameron was secretly trying to get Bianca to like him through their tutoring sessions.
All seemed to be going well, Kat and Patrick went out a few more times and he kept getting paid. They even decided to go to prom. As you can probably guess, Patrick was starting to fall for Kat and didn't want the money anymore. Cameron finally worked his charm on Bianca and they went to prom together. So think how upset this made Joey when he showed up to pick Bianca up for the prom and she was already gone. This really ticked him off and he walked up to Patrick and started yelling and talking about the money in front of Kat. She was not very happy about that, so she stormed off and Patrick chased after her but there was nothing he could say at that moment to make what he did seem right.
Could this be the end of Kat and Patrick? After that night did Patrick try to fight harder to get her back? These are questions you're probably asking yourself if you haven't seen this movie. You better check it out to see how everything plays out. Believe me, you'll want to see how the ending plays out and that musical number I was talking about.
I've loved 10 Things I Hate About You since the very first time I saw it. My sister introduced me to this movie so, when we have a girls weekend we try and watch it. So, this movie hits home for me and is why it's high on my list. Can you guess what my number one pick is? I hope you stay tuned to find out. Have a great day and enjoy a great movie.
We're taking it back to the 80's with my number 3 pick, Sixteen Candles. This classic rom com cast consists of Molly Ringwald (Samantha Baker), Anthony Michael Hall (Ted), Michael Schoeffling (Jake Ryan), and many more.
Samantha Baker is a normal teenager, but this is no ordinary day for her; it's her 16th birthday. Oh, this should be one of the best days of her life, finally turning sweet 16. Yet, as Samantha starts her day, no one greets her with a happy birthday. It seems everyone in her family, and I mean everyone, has forgotten Sam's birthday. I guess everyone got caught up in her sister's wedding since it's the next day.
Meanwhile, Samantha still has to go to school where life just seems to get worse, except that one period she has with Jake Ryan her crush. That's the time where she gets to stare at him and daydream. She's so in love with him, but she's pretty sure he doesn't even know she exists. Things don't seem to get any better on her bus ride home as Ted the geek won't stop bothering her. As though she thought her torture would end there.
When Samantha returns home, everyone has still forgotten her birthday and they're all in an uproar trying to get everything done for this wedding. Sam returns to her room to get ready for her school dance that night, another place for everything to go wrong. And so do many things, in her eyes.
The boy she's in love with is there with another girl, his girlfriend kind of, and she's left standing there alone. Of course she's staring at him and he notices, so she turns away only to find Ted trying to dance with her. She just walks away from that mess, but he follows her and tries to comfort her. I guess you can say he's got a little crush on her. After their little talk, he asks her for a favor, to borrow her underwear to win a bet. She let him, but little did she know he was going to show as many other boys as he could. Could this be the highlight of Samantha's birthday? If you haven't seen it yet, you better check it out to see how it ends.
I love this movie and many other 80's movies. If you haven't seen this movie don't worry, I had to introduce my friends to the world of the 80's. I had to get them to have an 80's night with me, so I could share with them this awesome experience called the 80's through these movies. Sorry to say I wasn't around for the time frame, so I have to live the decade through these movies; Say Anything, The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, etc. I loved having the little movie marathon with my roommates. We watched a few on Netflix, so if you have an account you can check them out. Have a great day and enjoy a great movie.
Bridesmaids takes the number 4 spot on this rom com list. This cast is extremely funny and mesh together very well. This film stars Kristen Wiig (Annie Walker), Maya Rudolph (Lillian), Rose Byrne (Helen), Chris O'Dowd (Officer Rhodes), and many others. Annie and Lillian are best friends or some may call them a dynamic duo. They might not be so dynamic anymore since Lillian has recently become engaged. They think things won't change, but how can they not.
Lillian's fiance's boss's wife Helen, hope you kept up there, has decided to throw them an engagement party as her and Lillian are becoming fast friends and is one of the bridesmaids. Right off the bat Annie and Helen don't get along as they are fighting for Lillian's attention. Helen tries to smother Lillian with extravagant gifts, as she can because she's wealthy, hoping Lillian will think she'd make a better maid of honor then Annie who is Lillian's maid of honor.
Through the entirety of the movie, Annie and Helen are pretty much competing over Lillian and it leads to arguments between her and Annie. Yet through all this, Annie manages to find affection with a police man, Officer Rhodes, and then messes that up as well. There's a lot going on with Annie and she's not sure if she can really get her life together.
So, will Annie get her life back together in time to win her best friend back and the guy she likes? Well I don't want to give away to much more so if you don't already know, you better watch the movie to find out.
I personally find this movie to more on the comedy side than romance with all the antics between this crazy group of women. But, there is definitely romance in the air with this one with the wedding and Annie finding Officer Rhodes. This would be a great girls night out/staying in movie and will have you laughing all night long. Have a great day and enjoy a great movie!
All right everyone we've made it to my top 5! These are the ones that I find to be some of the best romantic comedies. The Ugly Truth has made the cut. This hilarious duo of Katherine Heigl (Abby) and Gerard Butler (Mike) seem to make the perfect, yet unlikely, pair. The Ugly Truth is about a news producer named Abby, who is looking for love in all the wrong places, apparently and a guest correspondence Mike who is after lust. Mike is the correspondent on the show Abby works for and right off the bat, they don't get along all that well. Their whole views on love and lust really clash. Especially, since his whole segment, The Ugly Truth, is about the expectation of what a man is really thinking.
Although they don't get along all that well, they become semi-weird friends as Mike learns Abby has a thing for her next-door neighbor Colin (Eric Winter), the doctor. So, Mike decides to help Abby snag this guy, but she has to follow all his instructions and he's sure she'll land him.
During this little experiment, Abby and Mike grow closer and you can sense a little jealousy from Mike as Abby also becomes closer to Colin. It is really evident one night when Abby and Mike go out of town for work and things seam to heat up between them. After their passionate kiss, they return to their rooms only Abby's room has some unexpected company as Colin has come to surprise her. All of a sudden there's a knock on the door and you guessed it, it's Mike. He leaves quickly when he notices Colin and Abby runs after Mike and offers to get rid of Colin, but of course Mike said don't bother as he thinks he's no competition to the doctor. So Abby got her doctor, and Mike gets to keep lusting after women. Now after all that's happened, did they really get what they wanted? If you don't already know you'll have to find out for yourself. I shouldn't really be giving away everything or else what's the point in watching?
The Ugly Truth is absolutely hilarious and has you laughing most of the time. It also has a very unpredictable romance, if this was a real life situation. This is an absolute must see and would be a great date movie. I think there's something for even the guys to love. Have a great day and enjoy a great movie!
My number 6 pick goes to The Proposal. This romantic comedy stars the wonderfully talented Sandra Bullock (Margaret Tate) and the very handsome Ryan Reynolds (Andrew Paxton). The film starts of with Margaret and Andrew starting their normal work day at a publishing firm; getting ready and then at the office. Now, Andrew is Margaret's assistant and he's trying to work his way up to editor. So, he spends a lot of his time taking orders from Margaret and kissing her butt. A little later Margaret was called to her boss's office, she told Andrew to come get her in ten minutes with some excuse because she had so much work to do.When she arrived to her boss's office, they told her that her visa was up and she was being deported back to Canada.
Well, Margaret was not going to stand for this. Luckily, the ten minutes was up and Andrew walked into the office. That's when a light bulb turned on in Margaret's head. She told her bosses that her and Andrew were getting married and going to visit Andrew's parents to deliver the news and make it official. Andrew stood there dazed and confused and just kind of went along with it in adding that they didn't want to tell anyone because Margaret was promoting him to editor. He figured he ought to get something out of this. He also added the fact that his parents live in Alaska. That was a nice wake-up call for Margaret.
After they had left the office, they went outside to talk this over and Margaret pretty much had to beg Andrew to do this for her. She promised him many things and a promotion if he would do this favor for her. He then agreed and they then made their first stop at the immigration office.
Questions of course arose at the immigration office in inquiring if this marriage is the real deal. The man assigned to their case told them there was a long process heading there way. They were then warned multiple times that jail time is on the table if this is a false marriage. They were still willing to go on with this and so the man started the process of their case.
After the immigration office, it was time to pack up and head to the airport. They had a long journey to Alaska and a further drive when they arrived. When they first arrived they met Andrew's mom and grandmother at the airport. They then drove Margaret and Andrew threw town and Margaret soon started to realize that Andrew's last name was plastered everywhere. His family pretty much owned this town. They then had a boat ride to take them to the Paxton's home.
When they entered the house there was a big party waiting for them. It was kind of like a homecoming for Andrew as he as not told his family that they are getting married yet. But, shortly after they did make the big announcement that they're getting married. It has now turned into an engagement party. Andrew's family decided they'd pack this weekend with wedding plans and of course the wedding.
Many actions started going into affect as Margaret was thrown a bachelorette party, fitted into a wedding gown, and Andrew reconnected with his ex a little bit. Yet towards the big day Andrew and Margaret grew closer and started falling for each other. Margaret decided that she couldn't do this to Andrew and his family so she called the wedding off and decided to head back to Canada. SPOILER ALERT AHEAD!! Andrew of course then realized that he loved Margaret and wanted to marry her so they could date. Ha ha. Then, Andrew rushed back to the New York office where Margaret was packing her things and he professed his love to her and they decided to finally make it official.
The proposal is such a funny movie. Sandra Bullock is one of my favorite actresses and I love her in about everything she's done. If you think you see chemistry between Sandra and Ryan, I see an even bigger chemistry between her and Betty White. I would recommend this as either a girls night movie or even a movie to see on a date. I think there's a little something for all to enjoy! Have a great day and enjoy a great movie!
Of course, for my number 7 pick I've got to go with 13 Going On 30. This coming of age romance, literally, stars the talented Jennifer Garner (Jenna Rink) and Mark Ruffalo (Matt Flamhaff). For some, 13 feels like it was just yesterday. For Jenna, it was.
Jenna was a young girl about to turn 13, who was on the outside trying to get in. She was having a little birthday party and invited the cool girls from her school, "six chicks" to grow in popularity. As they got there they only wanted to Jenna to write a paper for them. So they played a little trick on her, seven-minutes-in-heaven with Mattie. she got embarrassed and made a wish to be 30. Little did she know that a little wishing dust and a whole lot of hoping, would make her wish a reality.
As Jenna awakes the next morning, she comes to realize she's in a strange new place and clearly no longer a 13 year old girl, but a 30 year old woman. She also wakes up to a man in her apartment, her boyfriend, and it really freaks he out. Luckily a blast from the past works with her and came to pick her up. Lucy, one of "six chicks" also formally known as Tom-Tom, is apparently her friend now and in high school. She definitely notices something is off with Jenna, but after awhile doesn't really give it a second thought. As Jenna arrives to work, she realizes she has her dream job at Poise Magazine. Jenna comes to the conclusion that's she's in this new life and Lucy is her best friend, so what happened to her best friend Mattie when she was 13?
Jenna had her assistant look up Matt Flamhaff and she found him. So, Jenna went to him and found out they weren't friends anymore. This really turned Jenna's world upside down. She tries to reconnect with Matt any way possible and luckily an opportunity arose for them to work together at Poise Magazine. Poise was looking for a new look for the magazine as they were losing sales to their competitor, Sparkle Magazine. Luckily, Matt is a photographer and can help Jenna's vision come to life.
As they work together, Matt and Jenna become very close again just in-time for Matt's wedding and for Lucy to sell Jenna's idea for the magazine to Sparkle. Everything starts going wrong as she's losing Mattie and Poise is going under. She visits Matt on his wedding day to try and stop him from getting married, but her attempt fails. He does give her, her dollhouse that he gave on her 13th birthday with the wishing dust. She takes it back to her parents house, which is next door, and wishes everything was back to normal and that she never made the wish to be 30. SPOILER ALERT!!! Lucky for her, it came true and she was back at her 13 year old birthday party where she told Tom-Tom off and kissed Mattie. Then, as you can imagine, in the end she married Matt and they lived happily ever after. As far as I can tell.
I absolutely adore this movie. Who doesn't think of fast-forwarding to the future or wishing they could go back. There's great romance between Matt and Jenna and absolutely love them together. Then you get great comedy with Jenna trying to figure out how to be a 30 year old with a 13 year old's brain. This is a great girl's night movie and one to watch over and over again. Have a great day and enjoy a great movie!
Easy A is my number 8 pick for best romantic comedies. Easy A's main star is Emma Stone (Olive Penderghast) and she is accompanied by other cast members such as Penn Badgley (Woodchuck Todd), Amanda Bynes (Marianne), Aly Michalka (Rhiannon), Thomas Haden Church (Mr. Griffith), Patricia Clarkson (Rosemary Penderghast), Cam Gigandet (Micah), Lisa Kudrow (Mrs. Griffith), Stanley Tucci (Dill Penderghast), and many more. The film starts off with Olive talking into a web cam explaining how it's time to tell her side of the story of how her little white lie spiraled out of control. Then we move to Olive talking to her best friend Rhiannon, this is where it all began, about going camping with Rhiannon and her family. Olive finds Rhiannon's family very odd, so she comes up with a little white lie about going out on a date with one of her older brother's friends from college. Instead of actually going out, Olive spends the weekend in her room listening to a card she got with the song Pocket Full of Sunshine in it. She returns to school on Monday with a very anxiously awaiting friend to find out how her date went. Olive comes up with a simple little story and tells her friend she probably won't see him again, and I guess she got the impression that Olive "hooked up" with this guy. As Rhiannon starts asking more intimate details the good Christian girl at the school, Marianne, overheard their conversation in the bathroom and starts spreading this bit of gossip all over the rumor mill. This rumor, like most, started spiraling out of control and word got around that Olive was the new school slut. As Olive grows into her new image, she gets detention around the same time a guy named Brandon does and they talk about how he's a closet gay and that the rumor started about her is just that, a rumor. So, Brandon comes up with a plan to help keep his straight image up and keep her slutty image up as well. They then attend a party and stage a "hook up" to keep the rumors going. Olive thought she was just helping this one friend out and it was a one time deal, but then that all changed.
Brandon then told some of his friends what Olive had done for him and they wanted the same kind of attention. Now all of them weren't gay like Brandon, but they had lady problems. The guy right after Brandon offered to pay her for her fake services and she accepts. Well then another rumored blossomed from this and everyone started to hear Olive was having sex for money, but the only selected few who actually needed her services knew the truth. As time goes by and more and more guys required Olive's services, she decided she had gotten into deep and was ready to get out. One time though a guy actually asked Olive out on a date, or at least Olive thought that's what it was, but in the end he was willing to pay her for sex. This guy thought she was actually sleeping with guys for money so he tried to make a move on her but she pushed him away and he drove off. Then Woodchuck Todd comes to her rescue and gives her a ride home. Olive has been in love with Woodchuck Todd for awhile now and as he drops her off she finds out he's had a crush on her for awhile. Hints the romance in this romantic comedy. After her talk with Todd, she realized it was time to stick up for herself and get out this mess. With the help of Todd and the school band, Olive makes a big impression and got everyone's attention to tune-in to her web cast. Then here at the end we see Olive back in her room giving the web cast and had newly shared her story. Now everyone knows the truth of what happens, and corny enough rides off into the sunset with Todd on an 80's style lawnmower like the movie Can't Buy Me Love.
I absolutely love love love this movie. Emma Stone would have to be one of my favorite actresses and she pulls this movie off without a hitch. It has great comedy with that touch of romance and it's just a feel good movie. There's great chemistry between the whole cast and it's hard to imagine others playing these parts. I highly recommend this movie and advise you to watch it over and over again. Have a great day and enjoy a great movie! Thanks I hope you all enjoyed.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days of course makes my list of favorite romantic comedies. This accidental love story, some might call it, stars Kate Hudson (Andie Anderson) and Mathew McConaughey (Ben Barry) as our leading man and woman. Andie Anderson is a writer for "Composure" magazine and has a "How To" article and recently made a deal with her boss that if she writes this next great article, she can start writing about whatever she wants. Andie is ready to be taken as a serious journalist. This is how we get introduced to the concept "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days." Where as Ben Barry is an advertising executive, and ladies man, who wants to land this new campaign. So, he bets his boss and two other co-workers, that he can make any woman fall in love with him in 10 days. By happens chance, they both end up in the same bar that night and meet shortly after the bet had been made. It is truly amazing the things that Andie does to try and get rid of Ben, and what he does to make sure this relationship lasts. Towards the end, they both start acting like themselves instead of these fronts they put up to write an article or win a bet. When they put down those walls, they actually started falling for each other. In the end, all is unveiled at an event that Ben's boss is throwing for the new campaign; not before Andie accidentally slips that she loves Ben. So, Ben ends up winning the bet and Andie did lose the guy. But did they actually get what they wanted? I don't want to totally ruin the end in case someone hasn't seen the movie, but I'm sure everyone can guess what happens. I love this duo and feel a real chemistry between them. Others must feel it too considering they've also been in Fool's Gold together. I love that it is an accidental romance with two people trying to avoid finding love and ending up finding it in each other. Then there's of course tons of comedy with all the things they do to each other to get their story or win a bet. It's mostly on Kate Hudson's side, as she is doing her very best to be an annoying girlfriend and trying to get rid of this guy. It also doesn't hurt that there is a very attractive leading man and a beautiful leading lady. I am constantly watching this movie and love every minute of it. Have a great day, and enjoy a great movie!
You've Got Mail is one of my personal favorites so I thought it should be on my list even if it's not on others. This romantic comedy stars Tom Hanks (Joe Fox) and Meg Ryan (Kathleen Kelly) as our main character love interests. Meg Ryan's character (Kathleen) owns a small bookstore that was left to her after her mother past and Tom Hank's characters' (Joe) family is building one of their chains of bookstores across the street. Sworn enemies from the chance that this chain bookstore might run the little bookstore out of business, would have never guessed that they were secretly e-mailing each other. In the middle of the movie Joe Fox finds out that Kathleen Kelly is the woman that he's been e-mailing, but keeps her in the dark until he's ready to tell her how he really feels. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks have great chemistry and keep it interesting with their witty banter. This is a feel good movie that I could watch over and over again. If you haven't seen it yet it is a much watch. Have a great day and enjoy a great movie!
Hello everyone! My name is Tylor DeNoya and I am now a junior at Washburn University. I am originally from Leavenworth, KS, and first attended Kansas City Kansas Community College. I made the move to Topeka last fall very eager to start anew. My intentions were to study Physical Therapy, but I decided that wasn't for me and am now a Mass Media major. I love watching all kinds of movies, so I've decided to dedicate my blog to them. I've decided to break down the 10 best romantic comedies. This is probably my favorite movie genre so why not. There's many different lists out there, but I found one that's closest to my liking. I'm looking forward to starting! Thanks, I hope everyone enjoys!
